LLUIS CARBO, the unforgettable Quixote in Honor of the Knights, and one of the principal actors in all of Albert Serra’s films, has died at the age of 83.

His version of Quixote by the Catalan filmmaker and Andergraun Films presented at Cannes in 2006, was the beginning of Carbo’s world-renowned career and international recognition.

He was awarded best actor (shared with Lluís Serrat) at both the Turin and Belfort film festivals. His presence became essential to all of Serra’s films, from Birdsong, (also presented at Cannes) to The Three Little Pigs (for dOCUMENTA (13) at Kassel) and even the most recent art film presented at the Catalan Pavilion for the Venice Biennale in 2015. In this 13-hour film he plays the role of the homosexual owner of a gold mine who “buys” his partner (Lluís Serrat), marries him and together they end up adopting a child. This was the culmination of his career but also his great artistic farewell. Albert Serra said: “He influenced me and reaffirmed the idea that the playful and subversive aspects of life had to be at the heart of our methodology… I combined this with an aesthetic ambition and formal thoroughness that had such special results. The starting point was LLuis Carbó and everything his attitude represented.”
